THC or CBD: Which Should You Use?

Cannabis is not as controversial as it was in the past. In the last few decades, many studies and pieces of researches have proved that it can be used to treat various health problems. It contains more than a hundred compounds called cannabinoids. These compounds react differently in our bodies. Among all cannabinoids, CBD and THC are the most popular ones. However, still many people are unsure about what is suitable for them.

Understanding Endocannabinoid System

ECS or endocannabinoid system exists in the human body’s nervous system. It is triggered by cannabinoids. ECS is categorized by two cell receptors named CB1 and CB2 receptors. ECS is among the largest neurotransmitter networks in our body. This system maintains the optimal balance of the body. In simple language, we can assume that endocannabinoids are very similar to the compounds found in the cannabis plant, such as THC and CBD. Thus, we can say that our body endocannabinoids are similar to CBD and THC.

The endocannabinoid system coordinates messages between our body and the brain to ensure everything is in order. Endocannabinoid receptors are present in our whole body. Thus, when we consume THC or CBD, they are received by these receptors.

What Are THC and CBD?

THC

THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is one of the major cannabinoids found in cannabis. It is the most widely used and researched compound of the cannabis plant. It is a psychoactive compound, so when it binds to the cannabinoid receptors on the neurons’ surface, we get euphoric feelings.

CBD

CBD is a short form of cannabidiol, and it is a compound that carries medical properties. It reacts with CB1 and CB2 receptors present in the human. It is not a psychoactive compound, so you will not get high or similar effects.

Which Should You Use?

THC

Several scientific studies show that the cannabinoid THC occupies both CB1 and CB2 receptors. The effect of THC is psychological but is not limited to a state of intoxication. It has been shown that this compound influences appetite, treats chronic pain, nausea, asthma, relieves pain, and lowers intraocular pressure and blood thickness. Several medical studies have also shown that THC can be effective in treating cancer. When it enters the body with CBD, a symbiotic effect can even be determined. You will find lots of products on weed stores online, but you have to use them according to the doctor’s prescription only.

CBD

The latest studies have found that CBD or cannabidiol doesn’t occupy cell receptors. It rather inhibits the enzyme FAAH (Fatty acid amide hydrolase) in that way, contributing to a slower breakdown of anandamide, which is one of the most important endogenous cannabinoids. Subsequently, CBD builds up anandamide in the brain. While science is still in its infancy regarding the medical use of CBD, research suggests that CBD is physiologically effective.

Several studies have shown that it helps in serious illnesses. In this way, it helps to inhibit tumor growth and reduce or prevent inflammation and nausea. CBD is also believed to be effective in cardiovascular diseases, epilepsy, stress, diabetes, neuropathic pain, muscle cramps, and similar other problems.

Difference Between THC and CBD

When we talk about the difference between THC and CBD, we need to understand that THC is a psychoactive compound, and it influences our behavior. By occupying cannabinoid receptors in the brain, it is able to generate certain feelings and moods. For instance, users report a lazy mood or absolute concern. The excess consumption of THC products like kush can have side effects such as sleep disorder, decreased appetite, anxiety, rapid heartbeat, and nausea.

Compared to THC, CBD doesn’t cause severe side effects. It carries medical properties, which is why many countries have legalized CBD for medical purposes. However, this doesn’t mean that CBD products do not have some amount of THC. When these two compounds are consumed together, they tend to have more effectiveness in treating ailments.

You need to consult a doctor to examine your health problems and take proper guidance on what dosage or product you should use. There are several THC and CBD products online, but we do not recommend using them without medical guidance.
