LED Operating Temperature and Its Effect On Plant Growth

Indoor gardening can be a fun and thrilling exercise, especially when you have the best equipment and tools to grow your garden. Many options are available to indoor growers and each one helps to enhance the experience of indoor gardening in unique ways. Thanks to smart lighting solutions like G8LED Grow Lights, growers can now achieve maximum yields and optimum growth.

LED grow lights have the power to improve the results of indoor growing projects. However, growers struggle with what type of light to use and what distance to place the light.

The truth is that not keeping lights at their proper distance will prevent the full potential of the garden, and hinder the growth of the plants. Placing a LED grow light too close to the plants can cause stunted growth, and too far will lead to its stretching. Follow the recommended lighting distances and make adjustments as your plants grow.

Temperature

Compared to other lighting options, Dorm Grow G8LEDs have a lower heat output. It is much easier to regulate the temperature of grow rooms with these lights. The ideal room temperate for the grow room is about 82-85 degrees Fahrenheit or as low as 72 degrees when the lights are on. During the off periods, the lights will not be in use and the temperature will be lower.

Leaf Surface Temperature

There are biochemical reactions going on in plants under specific temperature ranges. However, the rate of the reactions can be greatly influenced by the temperature of the plant’s leaves. Metabolism occurs in plants continually, and the optimal leaf surface temperature here helps to maximize the growth of plants. With optimal temperatures, the production of secondary metabolites becomes better, including vitamin pigments flavor enhancing compounds, and resins.

Note that ambient air also plays a role in indoor growing, and it affects the leaf surface temperature. Through evaporation, the leaves cool as the stomata of the leaf open, allowing gas exchange. Maintaining the ideal leaf surface temperature will ensure plants proceed with the best biochemical reactions with optimal efficiency.

Light Distance

When using these lights, here is a short guide on the best distances you should hang the lights from the plants.

G8-240: 12-24 inches, G8-450: 14-30 inches, G8-600: 16-36 inches, G8-900: 16-36 inches, Flower Booster: 12-36 inches

When plants grow and reach towards the grow light, raise the light a small distance to maintain the distance. As the plants grow tall, raise the lights. Once you get the appropriate height of the plants you desire to grow, you should stop raising the light. For denser and bushier plants, you should decrease the distance. Β If the distance between the light and the plants is too close, there will be stunted growth and some discoloring. During the flowering stage add a 90-Watt Red flower booster to promote increased flowering in the plants.

The Nutrients

LED grow lights play a major role when it comes to boosting the process of photosynthesis. Since LED grow lights allow for very efficient plant photosynthesis, the amount of nutrients needs to be reduced by at least 30%. Avoid overwatering and over-feeding the plants. Keep in mind that since the LED lights give off less heat, there will also be less water evaporation, so the watering schedule should be adjusted so the plants are only watered when the soil is dry.
